Certified Heritage Walking Horses

The period for certification of Heritage Pedigrees ended March 15, 2007.

Some of the founders of the Heritage Society have noted that sales catalogs from forty years in the past to as recently as 25 years ago featured a wide variety of bloodlines, especially in the distaff pedigrees. Recent IPEDS research by Society founders indicates, however, that many of these lines have been allowed to die out, rather than simply drop off the pedigrees into the fifth generation, as would be expected.

It is in the effort to record and preserve the vintage bloodlines, that the TWH Heritage Society is assuming the role of creating          a Heritage Tennesee Walking Horse list. We are looking for good horses that meet the criteria listed below:

1. Rare bloodlines are being preserved to assure genetic diversity for future equine and human generations. (At the present time    we are not accepting horses with Pride of Midnight in their pedigree)

2. Currently, horses must have 5 registration numbers from the 30' s and 40's on the papers.

3. No show horses shown padded from 1976 to the present in the pedigree.

4. Natural, evenly timed, four beat walking and nodding gait barefoot or plain shod. Stallions and broodmares no longer being used under saddle must show gait at liberty or in hand.

5. Color lines must trace, line by line, generation by generation, to horses of those colors registered in the original TWHBAA Studbooks.

6. Once a horse receives Heritage designation, if crossed with another Heritage Horse the resulting foal will receive Heritage Certification upon demonstration of a true four beat walking gait.

Horses will be kept in this database, along with owner's name and location. If you have a website, we can list it on this page as    well so people in your area can contact you.
